The U.S. Green Building Council held the first Greenbuild conference in Europe last month. Nearly 400 professionals from 35 countries and 233 companies gathered in Berlin to network, learn, and further the green building movement in the region. Greenbuild will take place in five cities worldwide in 2018 with Berlin being the first event. The conference will also be held in Mexico City, Chicago, Shanghai and Mumbai.
Highlights from the Greenbuild Europe conference include education on two new LEED programs:
- 1 O+M, the newest version of LEED that recently launched

- With LEED v4.1 O+M, an initial certification will be awarded to projects based on the implementation of sustainable operational strategies and performance score achievement in LEED Online for the areas below:
- Transportation: Administer at least one survey
- Energy: Provide 12 consecutive months of total energy use
- Water: Provide 12 consecutive months of total potable water use
- Waste: Provide weight of waste generated and diverted over a 12-month period
- Indoor Air Quality: Conduct at least one Indoor Air Quality evaluation for total volatile organic compounds and interior carbon dioxide (CO2) level
- Occupant Survey: Administer at least one occupant survey.
- The resulting points for performance will translate into a LEED certification level. The initial certification will be valid for one year. To keep the certification active, or to pursue higher levels of certification, projects should continue to report data against areas described above.

- Cities can earn LEED certification by sharing performance data on the Arc platform and receiving a score that benchmarks their performance against other cities.

Francesca Galati, BEE’s General Manager for Europe and the Middle East presented at the conference on LEED for Cities. She worked on the LEED for Cities certification for Savona Italy.
At the conference the certification of the city was announced: Savona is the first LEED for City to certify in Europe!
